Cruelty to animals is the infliction of suffering or harm upon animals, other than humans, for purposes other than self-defense. More narrowly, it can be harm for specific gain, such as killing animals for food or fur use. Diverging viewpoints are held by jurisdictions throughout the world. Broadly speaking, there are two approaches to the issue. The animal welfare position holds that there is nothing inherently wrong with using animals for human purposes, such as food, clothing, entertainment, and research, but that it should be done in a humane way that minimizes unnecessary pain and suffering. Animal rights theorists criticize this position, arguing that the words "unnecessary" and "humane" are subject to widely differing interpretations, and that the only way to ensure protection for animals is to end their status as property, and to ensure that they are never used as commodities. Laws concerning animal cruelty are designed to prevent needless cruelty to animals, rather than killing for other aims such as food, or they concern species not eaten as food in the country involved, such as those regarded as pets. In lawMany jurisdictions around the world have enacted statutes which forbid cruelty to some animals but these vary by country and in some cases by the use or practice. From Wikipedia under the

Q. I'm doing an essay on animal cruelty, i need info on how animals act or their behavior after they are abused. Asked by jay - Tue Apr 29 11:13:41 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. Depends on what type of cruelty/abuse/neglect they had to undergo, as well as probably how intense it was and how long it lasted. Beating, hitting, or any other type of intentional abuse would obviously jerk at some trust issues between the animal and any human, making the animal timid, shy, scared and probably aggressive in a defensive manner. If it was constantly done by a person of a particular sex, age, size, race, shape, then the animal could probably be more untrusting towards any person with a similar description or appearance. Starvation, my guess, would (until overcame) cause the animal to eat as much as they can eat, as quickly as they can and to probably develop food aggression, thinking that they'd go through starvation… [cont.] Answered by fat bastard zomfg crazies - Tue Apr 29 11:36:12 2008 What charity best helps fight animal cruelty?
Q. ASPCA or Humane Society of the United States? Is there another charity that is better in fighting animal cruelty? Sources? Asked by Skywarn storm spotter MAN-477A - Fri Aug 21 14:24:17 2009 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments A. HSUS does very little to actually fight 'cruelty'. (I use quotes because the definition of cruelty varies greatly between individuals.) They instead are anti-research, anti-hunting, anti-zoo, and anti-animal ownership. They are simply PETA without the terrorist aspect. The ASPCA is a pretty good organization. I think they too are a little extreme, as they are also anti-hunting, anti-trapping, and pretty much anti-research. I completely agree with the above answer to support your local shelter(s). They need all the help they can get. Answered by ratlover1 - Fri Aug 21 14:54:46 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "animal cruelty" Man offers reward in cat shooting - Tampabay.com
