Do you think the news media is partly responsible for the shootings in Omaha?
Q. This kid states in a letter he wanted to be famous. Should the news media take some blame because all the exposure these killers get? OMAHA, Nebraska (CNN) -- A 19-year-old gunman who police said killed eight people and then himself at a Nebraska mall left a suicide note predicting the shootings would make him famous, his landlord said.

A. I have actually stopped watching the news for over 3 months now! It is actually VERY depressing. I live in Philadelphia and people are getting killed every night. Then you have to hear about our soldiers being killed (we never here about the ones coming home disbabled for life)! I think our country's focus on celebrities and events such as the one in Ohama is shameful. The media does focus on the wrong things, but they do it because people are watching. One big problem with this is that there are not enough responsible parents sitting down with their children and talking about the issues. I think I want to start my own show. Why does our US news media rank by total medals and not by total gold medals for the Olympic games?
Q. According to the International Olympic Committee, The ranking is sorted by the number of gold medals. In a gold medal tie, the ranking is then sorted by the number of silver medals, and in a gold + silver medal tie, the ranking is then sorted by the number of bronze medals. As such, aren't most US news media, including Yahoo! Olympic coverage, intentionally misleading us when they rank by total medal instead of gold medals?

A. Why do the US media do it this way? I don't know, but there is no logic to it and no-one else in the world does it this way. Certainly not the IOC and contrary to what someone else said - this does matter, because they are the governing body. It's not up to anyone else to determine what medals mean. The system used by the US media means that 15 Bronze medals are worth more than than 10 Gold and 4 Silver which is clearly nonsense. You could perhaps award a number of points for each type of medal, but such a system could be weighted in so many different ways that there could never be any agreement. There may be a precedent for this if you look at the New York Times article from 1912 it says that the USA won the Olympics with the most points.… [cont.]

Are the masses really leaning Obama or is the news media steering them in that direction?
Q. Do you believe the polls right now? Are people really leaning heavily towards Obama or is the news media steering them and the polls in that direction? Leading by 4 or 5 points is not a landslide in my opinion.
Asked by suzy - Sun Jul 27 08:38:56 2008 - - 25 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The polls are always skewed democratic. look at the Gore/Bush and Kerry/Bush elections- The democrats were ahead in every poll. The media fawning over Obama is hurting him more than helping him. Most Americans are disgusted by this- and we don't want CNN or MSNBC telling us how to run our country.

Why is the news media, seemingly, trying to use its influence to destroy the world economy?
Q. Maybe things are a little bit bad. But the news media seems to be pushing for things to be worse. I even know of a few people who have been laid off in preemptive lay-offs; the company that laid them off, technically, wasn't hurting yet. But they laid them off because they expected to be hurting in the future, mostly because of new reports and forecasts.

All good news would make some people jealous or worse, suicidal. Does anyone else think the news media is politically biased?
Q. I am SO sick of seeing the faces of Obama and Clinton, I could vomit! Is the news media politically biased? It seems like they're speaking as if either of those two Democrats will win the presidency, and no one else is even running. I know I'm not voting for Obama or Clinton, but I feel like nobody's really covering the Republican side of the presidential race to give Americans a fair look at the candidates.

A. The republican race is virtually over at this point- McCain is going to win the nomination. They'll start focusing more evenly after each parties National Conventions, when each party has officially chosen its candidate. Edit: The most biased news channel is easily Fox.

The majority of people who end up geared towards "journalism" tend to be social liberals. The focus of the years they spend forming their political ideals does not delve deeply into quantitative reasoning. They do not study economics, finance, accounting, and business. How come the news media never reminds us how bad it was when the Democrats had the White House and Congress?
Q. The last time there was a Democratic controlled congress and a Democrat in the White House(77-81) we had double digit inflation, high unemployment, long gas lines and Iran Raided our embassy, took hostages and did not let them go until Ronald Reagan's inauguration day on Jan. 20, 1981. How would you attempt to reform the television news media in America?

Since apparently there was no real news today, they had a ton of "experts" on asking what they "thought" would happen with Obama and the Blag scandal, how many ppl in Chicago were politic were calling their lawyers today...yada,yada,yada... THEN! It came to the Caylee story. They had more "experts" did they think the body was hers? Was the mom lawyer at the jail? and on and on. Why don't they just wait a day or 2 for the DNA test and give us the news not a lot of speculation from ppl just as uninformed as we are. Knight Boat...that is an awesome idea! I would pay extra for that option!

What do you think the real motivation of the news media is?
Q. Talking specifically about the TV evening news (both local and national brodcasts) Do you think they are doing a public service to inform the general public? A. Ultimate motivation first and foremost is money. Which also means rating is the number 1 priority. This ties into all of the stories like Paris Hilton and Anna Nicole Smith that we have shoved down our throats. I think all of the mainstream media outlets have their own personal political agenda's. So when all of the back and forth goes on about which media outlet is the most bias or unbias, everyone is right and everyone is wrong. Is the news media spinning out of control? Are they telling us who to vote for?
Q. This question is for Republicans and Democrats. Specifically, I am thinking of the Republican debate at the Reagan library. I am not a Republican but it was obvious to me that Huckabee and Paul were left out. What effect did this have on the subsequent primaries? It seems that Huckabee might have won even more votes if he had not been written off by the media. If perception is reality; the media creates perception so wouldnt' they really be creating reality too?

A. You are just now noticing??? They started this long ago when Ms. Clinton was just thinking about running. They already know who they are going to crown. Save me the gas money from going to the voting booth and just do it.

Could the news media be ignoring Ron Paul, because he does not banter to the polsyers.?
Q. It seems to me that he is being ignored by the mainstream news media (FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC) because he is defying their reasoning in all the mone he has raised. He is genuine and does not change his messageto satisfy their hype. Does anyone else think he is being ignored and disregarded because of his honesty. I think he is not a politician but a politicians night-mare. Anyone else feel the same way.

A. No, they are ignoring him because he is not a credible candidate, has no power base other than on the Internet, and is a little less than sane.
