How did cultural diffusion occur as a result of the fur trade?
Q. It is one of the questions on my homework, however this unit and the units before it don't even cover anything about the fur trade. In the late 1700s to the early 1800s, how did cultural diffusion occur as a result of the fur trade?
Asked by rexarex (: - Thu Jul 15 20:43:29 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The French were trading fur with the Native Americans vice versa and the French became close allies to the Native Americans and married some Native Americans and cultural diffusion occurred.

What are your thoughts about the Chinese Fur Trade?
Q. I'm no animal rights protester, I'm just a normal guy who stumbled over some websites showing footage online of hundereds of domestic dogs and cats being skinned alive. What are your thoughts about the Fur trade in China? I think their government should put a stop to it immediately. I think fur farming should secondly be banned.

A. What a sad thing! I feel sorry for any animal being abused to death. That is not humane in anyway. Well China has human rights issues as well- so why not animals too. They limit a family to only two children- Singapore its only one per family. [Chinese law 2 yrs ago limit a family to only one small dog or cat, so many animals are starving, diseased and dieing in the streets now] did you know that one? I was raised on a farm and we are hunters/fishermen. I love wearing fur and eating meat. The sport of a hunt is stupid- the use of it for food is okay! A true hunter- aims to kill clean- that is fast. I however hate "waste" and "suffering" of any animal or humans for any reason. The leather we wear and most products we use are animal or… [cont.]

A. just as an educated guess, it would be an easy way to preserve and transport food stores during long trips. You would not have to do a lot of cooking, carry cooking utensils, and the same weight of pemmican would have more nutritional value than fresh meat.

How can one prevent a country, like China, to be cruel to animals in the fur trade?
Q. The following website shows just how cruel they are in the Chinese fur trade towards animals: --- its quite graphic. Is there a LEGAL way one can follow to stop brutally killing and torturing animals used for their fur?

A. The great thing about China is they get things done. They just a few months ago finished the most modern, most efficient, and the largest airport in the world, in Beijing. The built this in less than 4 years. By comparison it took the British over 20 years to build one new wing to Heath-row. Why the difference, The British listen to nonsense. The Chinese get it done. Do as you please, they will ignore you as they should. AS the pro abortion people say, if you don't want one don't have one, the same would apply here, if you don't like fur, don't buy fur.

why was the fur trade so disruptive to the native people in canada?
Q. why was the fur trade the founding force for European settlers in Canada
Asked by sheila d - Mon May 7 14:48:44 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The fur trade has cost a lot to the native people, because they were introduced to western things like alchool that have cause tremendous damage on the social fabric of those native, so they never really succeed to sustain the development of their nation as they were drinking their profits without reinvesting it in their society thus increase their power and influence. Of course they also got weapons, that help them wage more wars among themselves thus resulting in more instability and a declining population... Put those all together, and you understand why the Europeen use the fur trade to make money and to enforced their leverage against the native people...

How can people help stop the brutal beating and killing of animals due to the fur trade?
Q. They beat them and mame them and skin them alive. why is this legal? I am not a animal rights lunatic. I don't think cats should be able to vote or anything but this is horrific. I know not wearing fur is the quick answer but so many people still do. I of course do not, but it doesn't seem to matter. I want to do those things to the fur traders. At least they have a chance to fight back.
Asked by Jason K - Tue Oct 3 18:16:41 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The easy answer is convince people to not wear fur coats or other clothing. If there is no demand for fur, there will be no reason to hunt and kill the animals. The harder answer is convince people to respect members of the animal kingdom (to which we humans belong in spite of the fact some people deny that). Many people believe it is okay to destroy anything that they rate as less important than themselves. If you respect something, and appreciate its place in your life and environment, you won't kill it.

A. When? Do you mean long ago in colonial times? Furs were a staple export back then. If you mean now then again, what do you mean? If you mean how important are they today as a trade item the answer is not very. Or are you talking about the controversy over seal pelts? You need to explain this question more clearly.

Q. Describe the effect of the fur trade on the lives of the indians?
Asked by Angela B - Tue Jan 23 19:31:01 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It led to a rise in the use of European tools, weapons and clothing, while causing dependence on beaver trapping/hunting by indians. Many indian tribes used beaver as a new excuse for attacking other tribes, leading to the numerous intertribal "beaver wars". The demand for beaver pelts also led entire families to take part in hunting, prior to this most hunting was done by men in Algonquin tribes(Midwest to east coast of USA, and Ontario and some of Quebec) The traders, mainly among the French, frequently intermarried with the indians. Yes liquor was traded with the indians, much to the anger of Jesuit missionaries who hated the negative effect it had on their followers and their families, especially in the receptive Ottowa tribe. … [cont.]
